Fixing the Drawbacksįor PowerBlock, and especially the commercial lineup, I felt there exists two major drawbacks. Barring another pandemic, it would be difficult to recoup this cost if you purchase and end up selling them because they didn’t like them.

POWERBLOCK ADDER WEIGHTS PLUS

At a price of $2,238 plus shipping, it’s certainly an investment. As with the previous issue, I have a solution that has made the weight increases a breeze. For some, this may be too much of a jump to the next level. This provides an increment of 7.5lbs between each transition between plate or handle. Instead, the handles included are set to different weights at 12.5 and 20lbs, respectively.

Many of the PowerBlock models can add weight in 5lb or smaller increments with adder weights, but the commercial series does not contain adder weights. With adjustable dumbbells, that’s not always the case. Traditional dumbbells increase in 5lb markers. Total length of a 175lb dumbbell is approximately 20.75” meaning when you max out the load, you’re looking at almost two feet of steel to lift. Each polyurethane plate has a thickness of approximately. They are quite wide, long, and deep handles for any type of dumbbell, but in defense, need to be to hold such a high load of weight. The handles measure in at approximately 7.5” wide x 9.31” long x 9.06” high. The handles plus the additional weight can certainly be cumbersome if you aren’t used to PowerBlocks or are unsure about the need for such heavy weight. One of the major concerns for many people considering these dumbbells is the overall size of the dumbbell. The dumbbells themselves are no small chickens. Their standard padded contoured handle is featured on these instead.

One upgrade PowerBlock has made is in the handle, offering a knurled grip for the Pro 50 and 90 series, though it is not offered in the 125 or 175 series. The standard locking pin that is synonymous with PowerBlock continues to be a mainstay and has always been incredibly sturdy and sound. This changes the weight increments based on the handles (all weight increments will be shown below) and allows for a 7.5lb increment between adjustments depending on the handle. The commercial set comes with two sets of handles: one set is 12.5lbs base weight and the second set is 20lbs base weight. Shipping will probably cost you another $500 as well, so they aren’t exactly a cheap purchase. The price point on them is listed at $2,238.

The stainless steel hardware is attached to black painted steel connectors with color coded markings for weight increments. The steel plates are coated with a nice thick layer of polyurethane consisting of the stamped PowerBlocklogo on each plate.

The first thing we need to do is provide a basic breakdown of these monsters. In addition to the weight, the set comes with a stand and two additional handles.ĥ Is The Commercial Series Worth It? Commercial Breakdown What makes this set special is that it’s one of the heaviest sets of dumbbells on the market, topping off at a whopping 175lbs for each handle. One of the final upgrades I had been chasing for my gym for the last two years was obtaining a set of commercial PowerBlocks.

They have a variety of different styles to fit a massive customer base from the stay-at-home mom to the professional athlete. They have multiple patents for their adjustable dumbbell lineup and have, what I believe, to be one of the best adjustable dumbbells on the market. Over the years, PowerBlock has become a national powerhouse name in the home gym sector and has made waves internationally. PowerBlock has a great core group of people and I was grateful they allowed me to spend so much time with them. I had an opportunity to speak to many members of the team and developed a great relationship with many of them. PowerBlock is a private, family-owned company, having started back in the 1980’s in Minnesota. During my time at the event that day, I spent most of it hanging out with the crew from PowerBlock Dumbbells. This past March I attended the Arnold Classic after it was cancelled for the past 2 years due to Covid.
